Ganesh Mandir out of paper towel rolls

Hello everyone!! Today, I have something very interesting to show you all. Before that let me put some words about what we all do on Ganesh Chathurthi. We all knew that, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great devotion all over India. On this auspicious day people think of new and creative ideas to decorate their house and offers prayers to Lord Ganesh idol in order to gratify the deity.
When it comes to decoration, people search for creative ideas to make their decoration unique and eye-catchy. Now-a-days everyone are more interested in making eco-friendly Ganesh idols to save nature. That’s the great change!!
To place the statues of Lord Ganesh , Mandapas or Mandirs are built in homes, temples, localities and streets. These are beautifully decorated either by flower garlands, lights, etc. or are theme based decorations.
This year on Ganesh chathurthi, I made a Mandir for Ganesh idol  by using tissue paper rolls and a package box .Since it is quite simple , I decided to share this craft idea on my blog. Please have a look !!

Things required:

  1. Any Package box
  2. Paper towel rolls
  3. Colored paper towel (yellow)
  4. Scissors, sellotape , glue
  5. flower garland
  6. Lights

Steps to follow:

  1.  First remove the flaps of the package box and then make four equal partial triangular shapes from the four rectangular faces/sides as shown.
  2. To make the top covered structure (Mandap),join all the four pieces by taping the edges together.
  3. Using sellotape stick the paper towel rolls to the mandap on four sides forming pillars for the mandap.
  4. Now make an ornate gopuram shape out of the removed flaps of package box and stick it to the top of the mandap .
  5.  Adhere gold or yellow color tissue paper using glue. Use the package box bottom face as base for the Mandap.
  6. Wrap the flower garland around the pillars to create stunning look . Here I wrapped front two pillars and the front face of the Mandap.
  7. Lights automatically enhances our decorations and gives your decoration a ‘complete’ feeling. Wrap LED lights around the pillars.Mandir for Ganesh is ready… !!

Quilling Anniversary gift

I believe that handmade gifts has higher value since they are unique and creative. When you present a person with your handmade gift , it would bring a wide smile on their face and nothing brings you quite as much happiness as that expression on their face with these words : You did this for me? !! Isn’t it true? yes, that special gift makes the receiver more special 🙂

I have been learning Quilling since one year. Initially I would like to thank one of my colleagues who taught me the basic shapes of quilling. With that I started learning to make quilling artworks. Since I love the art of quilling, I came up with this idea of presenting a Quilling Photo frame for my cousin’s Wedding Anniversary!!

For this I have used 3 mm Quilling strips. At first without having any complete idea what to make I started making the different flower shapes and leaves with the use of basic quilling tool.

After  making these beautiful shapes , I arranged them on a cream color cardstock paper forming a heart shape.I have used a green color cardstock paper to fill the heart shape.

Finally ,after sticking the couple photo here is the pic of completed artwork !!! It looks colorful and this is an amazing masterpiece !!  I hope you would love this artwork ..

Quilling three tier flower pot

Yesterday when  I have visited  my friend’s home , I have seen a Three tier flower pot in their garden . The planter brimming with the combination of beautiful pink and purple flowers was very eye-catching and unique. The stacking of pots was drawing everyone’s attention as it is so simple and beautiful. I loved the colour choices of the flowers as they complement each other perfectly.
Well! I was very much impressed with the flower pot .It inspired me to make a craft that looks same as the real one. Unfortunately , I haven’t taken the picture of the pot, yet I decided to do the three tier Quilling pot 🙂
After spending 10 hours finally the quilling three tier flower pot is ready.. 🙂

From plastic to tulips

Nowadays Plastic is everywhere. Even though Plastic is a known disaster we are not able to avoid its usage since plastic has become an everyday part of our lives. Million tons of plastic trash is floating on the ocean’s surface as garbage patches causing environmental problems. It is quite impossible to avoid plastic all of a sudden but we can decrease the plastic pollution by following so many simple ways.

Don’t worry !! 🙂 Now I am not going to show what are all the ways everyone must follow to avoid plastic.
I would like to show how to reuse plastics, one of those ways to conserve and protect  the environment. Instead of throwing away waste plastics we can reuse them to make beautiful things. This might protect the environment to some extent.
Here I made tulips out of plastic spoons and plastic milk can/bottle . The below embedded video shows how I made the tulips out of plastic..  🙂

Hope you enjoyed watching the video. Please don’t forget to comment if you like the post 🙂

Paper cut wall art

I always love to find inexpensive and DIY ways to decorate my home. This simple DIY project added some allure to my home. This might look tough to make but this is a simple paper cut design. I have used a white note paper for the stem design and color cardboard sheets as background. The background colors added more glow to the art. It is really quick and easy wall art.. Try it !!

Steps to follow to make this Paper cut wall art..

Step 1 :

Get two pieces of paper in contrasting colors for each design.

The final picture shows three designs joined together. So, here I have chosen 3 White note papers to make the actual paper cut design and 3 different colors(red, green, yellow) of Card Stock paper for background.

Step 2:

Draw a pattern of Stem and leaves on White note paper with pencil

Step 3:

Gently cut along the edges of leaf shapes using paper cut knife. Twist the cut edge slightly upwards until half portion of the leaf as shown.

After twisting all leaves , it looks very impressive..

Draw a thicker line on stems using a brown color sketch pen. And stick the paper to any color cardstock paper using glue.

Step 4:

Proceed the same process for the middle design choosing different pattern.

Step 5:

Here I drew a mirror image of first pattern.

To draw the mirror pattern,

  • Place the  first pattern and the plain new white paper one on another. While placing make sure that the first pattern is reversed.
  • Now trace the mirror image of the first pattern using pencil

Repeat the procedure in step 3.

Step 6:

Stick the three patterns  together using glue and pin them to wall.

Wall hanging with popsicle sticks

First I arranged the popsicle sticks in rhombus shape. Then I have placed tea place mats on the sticks. one of the placemats is decorated with quilled flowers and one with my marriage note and the last one with our memory picture . Finally , I completed this art by sticking quilled miniature  pots. You can find these miniature pots in my previous post.
